This little lady is Kita.
She is a 7 year old Chihuahua and was presented to us when her owner realized she was urinating more frequently than usual.
Our Dr. Patzwald examined Kita and recommended an abdominal x-ray to assess the bladder.
The x-rays showed that the bladder was full of stones in a variety of shapes and sizes. Dr. Patzwald recommended cystotomy surgery to remove all the stones from her bladder. Kita’s surgery went well and all the stones were removed successfully!
The stones varied in size and shape. These stones will be sent for analysis to determine what they are made of which can help determine the best way to prevent them from reoccurring in the future.
Kita’s owner will continue monitoring her urination and will begin feeding a specific diet based on the composition of the stones. Hopefully, Kita will never have a bladder full of rocks again!
