Wellness & Prevention

Prevention is a cornerstone of overall pet health.  Regular, thorough physical exams, vaccinations, dental check-ups, dietary monitoring, etc., are all proactive means to avoid potential illnesses or disorders.  Early identification can minimize the need for expensive or stressful treatments of preventable diseases or conditions. Our in-clinic diagnostic capabilities and a well-stocked pharmacy mean we can often identify and begin therapy before you even leave the clinic.

Diagnostics

We are equipped to handle a wide range of medical conditions. Equipment such as specialized blood analyzers, digital x-ray, digital dental x-ray and ultrasound enable us to diagnose many conditions in-clinic, enabling us to begin early treatment.  A solid working relationship with various industry specialists, technological companies and compounding pharmacies ensures additional resources are always available.  Some of our diagnostic services include: Radiography (x-ray), Ultrasound and Laboratory.

Pharmacy

Our well-stocked, in-house pharmacy means minimal to no delays in beginning prescribed therapies.  For pets with unique needs requiring special medications or for pets that may be difficult to medicate, we work with local compounding pharmacies to provide individualized formulas and flavor options for your pet.

Surgery

Victoria Veterinary Clinic can provide surgical services from routine spay and neuters to more complex, selected orthopedic procedures.  We focus on pre-anesthetic screening, encompassing pain-management modalities and constant patient monitoring using current safe surgical and anesthetic equipment techniques, including laser surgery. For those services we do not provide, we are able to quickly refer you and your pet to a specialist.

Dental

Good oral health is critical for your pet’s overall health and wellbeing.  If not properly cared for, early warning signs of periodontal disease such as gingivitis (red, swollen or bleeding gums) can progress, causing serious oral disease, as well as introducing illness throughout your pet’s body. Preventative care is the best way to keep your pet’s mouth healthy through regular dental exams and cleanings, consistent oral home care and feeding a dental supportive diet.  Victoria Veterinary Clinic’s dental services include digital radiographs, cleaning, scaling and polishing, and tooth extractions when indicated.  For more complicated conditions, a small animal dental specialist is available in Saskatoon.  Our team will work with you to develop an ongoing dental care plan, including educating you about supportive dental diets,  what options and products are available for an effective home care routine, and discussing in detail any recommended services.

Therapeutic Laser Therapy

Therapeutic laser uses a bean if light to deeply penetrate tissue without damaging it. It can help reduce pain, inflammation and speed healing time.

Fear Free Approach/Behavior Consultation

Victoria Veterinary Clinic is a Fear Free Certified clinic. This program focuses on reducing fear, anxiety and stress in our companion animals. Our doctors and staff learn methods that promote a considerate approach and gentle control techniques to improve everyone’s experience during the visit to the clinic. For more information about Fear Free ask our staff or visit www.fearfreepets.com.

Pets sometimes exhibit behaviors that are not fully understood or may be unwelcome.  Employing a variety of possible approaches, our staff will work with you, providing individual consultations, follow-up exams and/or researched information specific to address your pet’s inappropriate behavior.

Nutritional Counseling

Pet food can have a major effect on your pet’s overall health, as well as treat certain diseased.  Our veterinarians and nutritional counselors have access to specialists and pet nutritionists, in addition to the most scientifically-verified nutritional information and the highest quality therapeutic diets currently available.   This enables us to tailor a diet plan to meet an individual patient’s needs, whether it is for disease management, such as kidney disease or allergies, weight loss or growth and development.

Cat Boarding

Relocating cats for temporary stays can be very stressful for everyone involved. Victoria Veterinary Clinic recognizes this and is proud to offer a ‘cat-exclusive’ boarding facility where we will try to make your cat’s stay as restful and ‘home-like’ as possible.  Your cat will have daily access to a play area with toys, scratchers, an aquarium and lounge chair, as well as multi-level, spacious condo units, with window views and glass doors, and twice daily ‘maid service’.  Your friend will be mentally stimulated by the new locale, new smells and new people, but comforted by their own bedding and belongings and routine feeding schedules.  Cats requiring special medical care, such as medication or injections, and multiple cats needing to stay together, can be accommodated.

Permanent Identification

We provide both tattoo and microchip options.  Placement of a micro-chip does not require an appointment with a veterinarian, and we carry both North American (FDX A) and International (CKC registry–approved FDX B ISO) chips.  In-ear tattoos are only done while under gas anesthetic, so a surgical consent is required.

Grooming

Our grooming services are limited to pedicures, application of nail protectors, feline shave-downs and clip-and-cleans related to individual procedure sites.
